Kenya: Woman, 72 y/o collapses and die at a polling station in Murang’a

A 72 year old woman who was lining up to vote at Kaganda Primary School polling center in Kiharu constituency, Murang’a County has collapsed and died as she waited for her turn to vote.

The woman is said to have been accompanied by other elderly women and were not allowed to vote first as it is the case in several other polling stations across the country.

Apparently elderly people, the sick, pregnant mothers and also women or men accompanied by children under the age of three are given first priority to vote but that is not the case at the polling station.

According to reports the woman was ailing and had complained of feeling unwell due to the scotching sun but her pleas fell on deaf ears. The woman was rushed to Murang’a General Hospital but confirmed dead on arrival.
